Psychics and Psychic Readings
By the pricking of my thumb, something evil this way comes’.
This infamous line from Macbeth is perhaps one of the first glimpses that humanity got of the world of premonitions. However, the occult, as a science or art has been around since much before the times of Shakespeare.
One of the most enduring features of occultism is the image of psychics, with wrinkles and a hoarse voice that raises the neck hair of even the most courageous hero. A psychic is a person that can establish contact with the dead or one who can interpret the signs that spirits give the living world without actually communicating with them. By this definition, some of the most famous figures in the pages of history from Joan of Arc, who received commands from the dead saints of France to the notorious Russian holy man Rasputin, who guided the Czar to his end, were all psychic mediums. The term psychic also refers to extrasensory perception or ESP - the so-called ‘sixth sense’ or ability to detect another person’s actions and feelings with no visible connection. It is believed that we live in a world governed by rationale and science, which has no place for the faiths that blinded our ancestors. As we climb higher on the ladder of progress, there comes a time that our need for spirituality overrides our desires for technology.
Psychics
People that can speak to, hear, or are sensitive to the presence of supernatural entities are referred to as psychics. It is believed that every living individual has a sixth sense, giving them the potential to delve into the spiritual realm. Most are, however, unaware of this ability or repress it to such an extent so as to render it defunct. What makes psychics different is that they are, for some mysterious reason, so sensitive to metaphysical influx that they become incapable of shutting it out. Due to this extrasensory perception, people with psychic abilities, can communicate with the dead, are precognitive and able to reveal past unseen events through psychic readings.
Researchers have tried over the years, to come up with a scientific explanation for extrasensory perception and prescience, but so far no study has given tangible results. Irrespective of the skepticism in the scientific community, the popularity of psychic mediums and their works continues to rise the world over. Unlike other walks, where top professionals can be sought out, the world of occult has no top delegates. Certainly, there are those who are better known than others like Edgar Cayce, the founder of the Association for Research and Enlightenment and those who claim to channel infamous figures like Annie Kirkwood who was said to receive messages from the Virgin Mary. The predictions and communications of these mediums are available in their writings and through the Internet. They have the uncanny knack of making the same sense to people in different places and in different times.
When dealing with the supernatural, psychics or psychic readers, it is considered better to have answers come to the seeker, than to go in search for them. When the time is right and the seeker really needs help from the beyond, the appropriate psychic medium will appear. Psychics need to provide closure from the astral plane and the seekers desire for the truth will make their coming together a self-fulfilling prophesy.
